Dr. Nicole M. Sommersville
About Me
I’m Dr. Nicole Sommersville, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, AAMFT Approved Supervisor, Air Force veteran, wife, and mother. I understand that reaching out for help can feel vulnerable, so I create a warm, trusting, and judgment-free space where clients feel comfortable being their most authentic selves. You do not have to censor yourself or pretend to have everything together here—cursing is allowed.
My approach to therapy is direct, supportive, culturally responsive, and tailored to the person in front of me. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. I help individuals and couples work through trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, difficult life transitions, unhealthy family dynamics, and the lasting effects of narcissistic or emotionally harmful relationships. Whether you are trying to break a generational cycle, rebuild your confidence, strengthen your relationships, or stop allowing the past to define your future, we will work together to create meaningful and lasting change.
I value telehealth because it gives people the flexibility to care for their mental health while managing work, family, parenting, relationships, and all the other responsibilities associated throughout the various life cycles. Therapy should fit into your life—not become another source of stress.
I hold a Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Therapy with Military Families degree and am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Nevada, Florida, Oklahoma, and Colorado. I am also an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.
My additional training and certifications include:
Certified Anger Management Specialist II through the National Anger Management Association
Certified Art and Play Therapist
Brainspotting Levels I and II
Specialized education and research in military culture, trauma, intersectionality, and culturally humble mental healthcare
As an Air Force veteran, I bring both professional training and lived experience to my work with veterans, active-duty military members, and military families. I have also provided care in inpatient, in-home, community-based, outpatient, and correctional settings, giving me experience supporting clients with a wide range of needs and life experiences.
Although Obsidian Therapy intentionally centers the needs of BIPOC communities, veterans, military members, and other historically underserved populations, people of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences are welcome here. You are the expert on your life. My role is to help you recognize your strengths, develop new tools, heal what continues to hurt, and confidently build what comes next.
